Diploma Syllabus Topics

At the end of the eight weekend Diploma Course students will be required to pass both a practical (oral) and a written examination. Successful candidates will gain their Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis (D.Hyp.) and are deemed to be of a level to practise hypnotherapy. Graduates will be encouraged to practise under the auspices of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis and may apply for a place on the Practitioner Diploma Course.

Advanced Techniques of Hypnosis

Regressions, dissociation techniques, hallucinations, automatic writing, hypnography; pseudo-orientation in time (hallucinated age progression), time distortion; glove anaesthesia (pain control), suggested amnesia, memory substitution; Ericksonian hypnosis, including indirect forms of suggestion, compounds, the ‘yes’ set, truisms, confusion techniques, surprise technique, interspersal technique, utilisation technique; NLP, including eye movement patterns, pacing, mirroring.

Psychotherapeutic Studies

Locus of control, the behavioural and cognitive sciences, paradoxical intention, ordeal therapy, hypno-behavioural model, ‘secondary gains’; psychodynamic approaches; hypno-analysis metaphorical communications; lucid dreaming, regression therapy; information-gathering skills, interpretation of body language and minimal cues; creating rapport, case taking, diagnosis, counselling techniques and treatment planning.

Clinical Studies

Recognition of contra-indications, abreaction, symptom manipulation; panic disorders; psychosomatic disorders; migraine and insomnia, bruxism, snoring, nightmares, dermatological conditions; Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS); anorexia nervosa, bulimia; phobias, obsessive compulsive disorders (OCDs); depression; dystonias; psycho-sexual problems including impotence, premature ejaculation, frigidity, vaginismus and psychogenic infertility; neurotic conditions including anxiety and stress; somatic problems including relief from pain in a variety of conditions including both minor and dental surgery, and during childbirth; hypnodontics; breaking of unwanted habits including smoking and abuse of food; nail-biting, stuttering, blushing, nocturnal enuresis and learning difficulties; childhood anxiety disorders; performance anxiety including public speaking, examination nerves and ego strengthening; improved sporting performance; also, treatment and relief of many other somatic and psychological symptoms for which hypnotherapy is indicated as a practical treatment.
